Bam! Films

Comicbook inspired Squarespace website

A Comic book inspired website for local videographer

storytelling through Web Design

When I got the call from James to help create his website I was very excited. After decades in the industry, he started his own company, "Bam! Films”.

As he explains, the “Bam!” used in comic books is a graphic device to show impact. For James, video and film is a way to tell stories in an impactful and meaningful way.

The actual “needs” of his website were pretty straight forward. For launch he just needed a home page, a short “about” and a way to contact him. But this wasn’t going to be just any quick turn-around website.

James wanted to infuse this comic book aesthetic throughout the website. As something completely new to me, I was very excited for the challenge of using tools in Squarespace to make a very unique and custom site for him.

Believe It Or Not (Windows)

Giving a nearly 20 year old website a major transformation.

A major renovation for local window & Home remodeling company

Mobile responsive Remodel

“Believe It Or Not!” has been in business for 40 years and up until this relaunch has been using the same website for close to 20 years. The original site was straight HTML hosted on an old Linux server running Apache. Websites this old are far from mobile responsive. When you head to the page, you’d have to zoom in to read, and it was very hard to navigate. Below, you will see a snap shot of the home page with navigation on the left hand side.

The business was still active and thriving, but the dated website didn’t necessarily give the impression they were still in business.

A fresh build on Squarespace 7.1 allowed me to create a new layout (automatically mobile-friendly). I took color inspiration from the original site to create a professional looking design that made it easy for potential clients to see services offered and to get it touch.

A focus on experience

It was really important for us to talk about the business’s credentials. Believe It Or Not! had earned high ratings and verifications from HomeAdvisor (now owned by Angi). We used the opportunity for the remodel to add special badges the business has earned as an “Elite Service Provider” to showcase the great work they have done.

To drive the point home even more, we created a new dedicated page for testimonials which the original site did not add. By curating client feedback business can showcase the most impactful testimonials instead of rely only on Google Business, Yelp or similiar pages.

Overall this “remodel” has launched Believe It Or Not!’s website into this decade and we expect that it will attract and convert MANY new clients.

A new website with a mini brand refresh

A fresh look & feel for a beloved local yoga festival

Since 2014, Love Yoga Fest has hosted yoga teachers from all across the country at their annual yoga fest in Cape Cod. In 2021 the beloved business took on new owners and leadership ready to bring back the festival in a big way.

Core to its mission is to support the community by donated a portion of proceeds from their events to deserving local non profits.

The new website would be a place to demonstrate the impact LYF would make, highlight its incredible history and promote its events throughout the year.

We took the opportunity of moving the site to Squarespace to give it a new color scheme that balanced vibrancy and tranquility. The site was give a new layout to guide visitors to learn more about events and see the amazing work LYF has contributed to.

The full site was launched in advance of their first 2023 event in April to support Yoga Reaches Out.

Pi Piper Inc.

Creating a web presence for a family-owned plumbing company that has been in business for over 20 years.

New website for Local plumbing Company

an overdue update

The owner of Pi Piper Inc. hasn’t been the only client who used to have a website but somehow “lost” it or could no longer edit or access it. Here was a company that had an impressive 4.9 star rating from clients on Angi, but didn’t have an online presence of their own.

When Ale showed me old screen shot of what he used to have, I knew I’d be able to provide him a site that looked 100x better and was mobile responsive. Along with the freshly launched website optimized for SEO, I helped the owner create a My Google Business listing so he could start driving more traffic to his site.

Coming Soon: Love Yoga Fest

Brand refresh and new site for yoga festival

New owners, New Website Platform

A fresh take on a beloved organization

Love Yoga Fest has hosted annual yoga festivals on Cape Cod, featuring the best teachers from around the country for a number of years. As we all know, 2020 and the pandemic required businesses to pivot dramatically. In 2022 LYF was purchased by a new set of owners with the vision to revive the festival.

Their original site was on Wordpress, but with so much new stuff to talk about, it made sense to consider a whole fresh take on the brand. We took the opportunity to move the site onto Squarespace which would give the owners more confidence in maintaining the site long term.

A lot is in the works for 2023, but the owners were eager to get the site live. We opted for a landing page to collect emails in the meantime. In a few weeks the full site will be live. Check back then.

Warrior Within Yoga Project

Dynamic website for new Massachusetts nonprofit

Squarespace Website for nonprofit

A project Close to my heart

I constantly recommend Squarespace to others, so of course, when a new nonprofit I was developing needed a website, I built it on Squarespace.

Integrated Donations

This site has a lot of custom CSS, as many of the sites I design do, but having a Business subscription was absolutely key to be able to add embeddable widgets throughout the site. In addition to needing to add a booking widget for veterans to book free yoga classes, we had to make sure collecting donations from supporters was a seamless experience. Whenever you can keep someone on your site, you should. Our donation software has multiple types of widget buttons to allow clients to stay on our own site.

Hanna Harlin

New site for a holistic healer to sell her services

new site for a holistic energy healer

A great user experience

All the wellness providers I’ve worked with - whether they are yoga instructors or reiki masters are all very passionate about what they do. They all have a unique approach to what they do and a vision of how they want their clients to feel after working with them.

Websites have a very specific purpose: for a potential client to take action. Yes, of course, we want to talk about what we do, provide content and make things look pretty, but when designing a website its not so much WHAT we are saying but rather HOW it is laid out in a way that keeps the person visiting your page engaged visually, but also that prompts them to click that call to action button.

Hanna and I worked closely together from the early stages of the project. I provided some initial templates, design ideas and guidance on how she might want to share her offerings. With Squarespace’s easy to use interface, she has been able to modify her content has she’s developed her programs.

Kids Super Journal

Website launch for new childrens’ book release

Empowerment for new entrepreneur

An easy to use platform

Elizabeth, author of Kids Super Journal wasn’t the first client to come to me wanting to move her site AWAY from another platform that was just too confusing to update.

Building a website and maintaining a website are two different things. Most people will require a developer to design a new custom website, but on platforms like WordPress or BlueHost it can feel like you need to be a tech expert to make simple updates. Not with Squarespace. Elizabeth knew the platform and wanted the work another developer did on another platform to be moved to Squarespace.

These sorts of replications are never quite exact - besides I like to make my own updates and improvements. By launch, Elizabeth had a whole new site she could easily adjust as needed, update her podcast info, or add a blog post.

Shopify Integration

Did you know Shopify can integrate with other platforms? Look, I love Squarespace for many things; its one of the best in class website services. When it comes to e-commerce however, Shopify is the leader. Elizabeth wanted to use Shopify to release her new book so I worked to integrate the listing onto site for a seamless shopping experience.

Natick amvets

New website and new platform for Veteran nonprofit

from Wix to squarespace

A long overdue update

Most often, those who run nonprofits have a lot of their plates and don’t often have time to maintain a website. When I first connected with the Amvets in Natick, I was offering some other volunteer services. The Post Commander wanted to be able to add more to the existing site, and it was considerably outdated. While most drag and drop sites easily adjust to mobile viewing, this former Wix site didn’t do so that well. The site felt very dated. If they wanted to attract new members and advertise new services for their veterans, it was time to update.

Simple, Clean, mobile Responsive

My favorite feature of Squarespace is how it is intuitively designed to adjust from desktop to mobile viewing. Not only did I give the site a new, clean look & feel by updating colors and simplifying font choices, it now was easy to read and interact with on mobile screens.

Absolute Remodeling

Website upgrade for a local general contractor

Website refresh to Squarespace 7.1

Upgrading an already great site

Okay, full disclosure: this small business is owned by a family member. I had designed the initial website (it may have been my first or second Squarespace site), but after 7 or 8 years, and the recent Squarespace 7.1 release, it was time to upgrade.

Since the website was first launched, the business owner had collected a number of new great reviews and had new work to share. There were many things we liked about the original design but really wanted to showcase the great work he has done.

Before / after Sliders

The website “client” had many before and after photos collected over the years. Rather than simply place in a gallery (we did that as well) I wanted a dynamic way of showing the dramatic difference between his “before”s and “after”s.

Using custom coding we added a special slider feature that allows the user to drag an icon left and right across the image to see the before and after.

We further embedded several short videos throughout the page to add additional dynamic content.

Shiva Rea

Best in class website for a best in class yoga instructor

New site for A whole new online class course

From sEO Mess to Top ranked site

Shiva Rea is one of the most renowned yoga teacher across the world. I had been working with some clients who needed help integrating Union.fit’s booking widget onto their site. Shiva is one of Union’s clients, but needed a whole lot more than adding a widget.

When we first started working, Shiva actually had multiple websites, for multiple arms of her business (her teacher training, online courses, etc). She also sold her content through other streaming services. But if you did an online search for “Shiva Rea” her own sites ranked fairly low.

Developing a whole new site for a new online membership was in order. Using Squarespace 7.1 I designed, from scratch a new site to highlight her vibrant personality and make it easy for client to register for class.

Since launching, her team has added a lot more content to the site and with the SEO optimization I added, it is now ranking in the top 3 in Google search.

Class Booking Widget

Any wellness provider using third party booking software (Mindbody, Wellness Living, Union, etc) can integrate their booking widget directly onto their Squarespace site. In order to have this sort of customization, you must subscribe to the Business subscription of Squarespace.

We embedded code from Shiva’s booking provider, Union.fit so clients could easily book into one of her online yoga classes.

Andrew Tanner Yoga

A brand refresh for Berkshire based yoga and meditation teacher.

Brand refresh and upgrade to Squarespace 7.1

Brand Refresh

I’ve been working with Andrew since 2017 when I designed his original Squarespace site. In fact, it was one of the first gigs I secured after deciding to freelance.

By 2021 Andrew’s yoga business had changed dramatically, and he was now operating a new space of his own in the Berkshires. With all new content to share, new classes to offer and a whole new brand, and a recent update to Squarespace, Andrew was ready for something fresh. Inspired by the beauty of the Berkshires we brought in a natural and moody aesthetic to his new site.

Custom Widgets
